This presentation will be informal and should take 5 minutes. Remember, the presentation is on the draft of your final paper.
You wont need to turn anything in, I will do the grading on the information you share with the class. You can use any notes/materials that will help you share this information. Answer all of the following questions in your presentation:
- What problem are you discussing?
- How does this correlate to gender, race, and/or class?
- What solutions are your proposing?
- What questions do you have/what are you still trying to figure out?
Be sure that you answer all questions fully, with enough detail so that class understands what your topic is. This is also the time you can get feedback from your peers on any information you are still working through.
Your final paper will be a research paper in which you chose a topic related to the sociological concepts of gender, class, and/or race. This topic should also be a problem that exists within your program of interest. It can be anything from a problem with current trends in the field, to looking at a specific design element.
This paper should use APA format, and be 5 to 10 pages long. This not include title page or the Reference page. You will need to cite at least 8, reliable, sources through this paper.
The paper should include the following content:
Introduction: Introduce your problem and include your thesis statement.
Sociological Context: Talk about your problem in terms of the concepts we have discussed in this class. Does it concern race, gender, and/or race. If there are multiple aspects, also discuss intersectionality. Which sociological theory provided the framework for how you have thought about the problem/solution?
History/Literature Review: Discuss the historical significance/ trends of the problem. You can also look at this section as a literature review.
Importance: Discuss why this problem is important. Some possible perspectives can include why we need to bring awareness to this problem, why it is a significant problem, and why solving the problem will be significant.
Solution: What is your proposed solution? This section can include drawings/images if it will be helpful to get your point across. However, images do not count to your final page count!
Conclusion: Briefly summarize your findings.
