Question
Considering the Christian ethical principles we discussed in modules one and two, which do you think have the greatest bearing on both sides of this issue of abortion? (I.e. Consider the principles introduced by Panicola, e.g. autonomy, beneficience, the principles of CST, e.g. dignity and preferential option for the poor, and the wider ethical approaches, e.g. right actions, right outcomes, and right relationships.)
As you consider under which conditions you think abortion is ethically permissible or not, consider ways opposing sides might work together to build a more just world. Support your ideas with evidence from the readings (Theological Bioethics) AND consider your own social location, specifically your gender and class.
Particularly strong posts will demonstrate awareness of the poster's own leanings (e.g. I've always thought of this in a utilitarian way) AND expand their perspectives by addressing other approaches (e.g. but virtue ethics and dignity caused me to think about the ways a community can help a pregnant person...).
Finally, drawing on Cahill's work, consider the ways that communities are impacted by abortion, and how communities might be responsive to the needs of pregnant individuals and new parents.
