Perhaps the most important practices I have captured during my experience in this course is the use of clinical practice guidelines (CPG). The CPGs are of utmost importance in consideration to practicing the nursing profession for these utilize the most current evidence-based practice which would guide nurse practitioners towards sound decision making, aiming at effective patient care. Case studies during discussions spark critical thinking generated not only from materials provided but also from the input contributed by the class. Moreover, CPGs presented in the course provide a systematic approach in clinical decisiveness, leading to safe and high-quality patient care. One of the sub-competencies, i.e., apply a systematic and defendable approach to nursing practice decisions, can be achieved through case studies with the guidance of CPGs. As future providers, we need to be updated as to what is the most current and effective patient care. There are various treatment modalities available and using the CPG can aid in a quick, effective decision when treating patients. Benefits may include shorter hospital stay, increased patient satisfaction, conservation of resources, and reduced treatment cost. By considering these, we can work toward the best interest of our patients.
