Change management requires stakeholders to be engaged, have a shared vision, and engage in person-centered thinking. This can be done by adopting Lewin's Change Model. The Lewin's Change Model, also known as Lewin's 3-Stage Model of Change was created by Kurt Lewin. It consists of three stages known as unfreezing, moving, and refreezing. This is a great change model for direct-care nurses to adopt as it allows nurses to assess, recognize and create problem awareness in the unfreezing stage. Here we can utilize educational skills with our patients and their families. In the moving stage, nurses can then engage in critical thinking skills to solve the problem. We can seek alternative treatments and methods to replace modalities that were ineffective previously. This can be done by re-assessing and adopting new ways and behaviors. In the refreezing stage, the nurse then allows the change to take effect and be adopted among all stakeholders and the organization. Here we can celebrate success and positive adaptation to the outcome (Abd el-shafy et al. 2019). The Lewin's Model draws upon the framework of implementing and evaluating in the nursing process of bedside reporting to enhance nursing communication. This method has been shown to improve patient satisfaction with nursing communication by 87.6% in a six-month implementation period (Harrison et al. 2021).
