Question

A 63 year old male presents to the clinic with 3 months of low back pain. He reports the pain is present every day but is certainly worse with certain movements. Usually the pain is controlled with ibuprofen or Tylenol, but over the past 2-3 weeks he is having to take more than the recommended doses to control his pain. He has a history of hypertension and hyperlipidemia. He continues to work full time as a clerk at a retail store and states it is getting difficult to stand on his feet all day because of the back pain.
