Scenario Stress:
Kyle is driving on a major interstate highway on the way to work. The commute to work is 1 hour with normal traffic flow. It is 7:25 a.m., and there is an 8:00 a.m. meeting with the upper management team. Kyle left the house at 7:05 and was feeling slightly anxious about being late.

Fifteen minutes into the commute, the radio announcer says that traffic on the route is slowed down due to an accident. Kyle begins to feel more anxious and to worry about how the superiors at work will perceive Kyle for being late. Kyle begins to blame the traffic and bad drivers for the potential to be late for work.

As Kyle exits the expressway, another vehicle cuts off Kyle's car and exits as well. The driver did not use a turn signal and did not acknowledge Kyle's car exiting. Kyle begins to yell obscenities at the driver. As Kyle pulls up next to the driver's vehicle, Kyle displays an obscene gesture to the other driver.

During the rest of the commute to work, Kyle is angry, blaming the other driver, and self-doubting. Kyle has a headache and is 15 minutes late for the meeting.

Respond to the following items:

1. Describe at least three physiological stress reactions Kyle is likely experiencing.

2. Describe at least three psychological stress reactions Kyle is likely experiencing.

3. Discuss at least three effective strategies that Kyle could use to help cope with both psychological and physiological reactions to stress.
