Select a publicly traded company that would carry a significant amount of inventory on their balance sheet and review their financial statements, from either their website or download them from the SEC EDGAR database. Your deliverable is a brief summary of the attributes that you think would make a sample of selection of inventory representative of the population as a whole. For example, if I were to select Boeing I would look at how much of their inventory is finished aircraft, WIP, components and then I'd want my sample to roughly reflect those inventory items proportionate to the $ value of inventory they represent. I'd also look to how much of their business is commercial aircraft, defense contracts, and space/satellite and it would want those factors considered when I determined what a representative sample of inventory might look like.
