The payroll department receives employee time cards from the production department on weekly basis. Using the hours worked on the time card along with the pertinent information from the employees' file (wage rate, deductions, etc.) and a tax-rate reference file, a payroll clerk calculates the employees' payroll amounts and prepares a paycheck for each employee. A copy of the paycheck is filed alphabetically in the payroll department and the paychecks are forwarded to the Production Manager to be distributed to employees. Time cards are filed by date in the payroll department.
