Question - Brief description - As per the Environment Policy of the Government of Australia, a Carbon Tax is levied on the top 500 polluting companies of Australia @ $23 per tonne of carbon released in the atmosphere, with the tax gradually increases every year. This policy is an effective mechanism to reduce carbon output and the level of climate change.

Business Scenario - Assume that you are working as a project manager with a Financial Services company in Sydney. While Financial Services industry is not much impacted from the Carbon Tax compared to other industries, your company's reliance on IT networks and electricity consumption puts it a risk of impact. Also, company's executives have decided to make the company "greener" by reduce its carbon footprint as part of their corporate responsibility program.

The company has decided to form a project team that can analyse the changing industry and business environment and make recommendation for sustainable business practices. You will assume the role of this project with any companies targeted by the Carbon Tax.

Task details - This project relies on research.  Based on research, you need to complete a formal proposal to the management consisting of the following:

Describe the carbon tax and explain how it is relevant to the concept of sustainability

Assess the impact of the tax on your company and its finances

Recommendations on sustainability practices the company can adopt to minimise it carbon footprint

Suggest what the company should do to monitor its environmental performance 

Relevant legislations and how the changes in the industry may impact upon organisational practices

Calculate and provide a brief cost-benefit analysis based on the recommendations
