Yes the European Court of Justice was right to rule that the league could not stop people from buying Premier League soccer feeds from other countries because, the English Premier League should have stronger terms of service and enforcement with the broadcaster not the consumer. Consumers have he right to access any legal broadcaster and cannot be subject to fines or any from of penalties for the ambiguity or violation of broadcasting rights between the and the English Premier League and the Broadcaster. The broadcasters and the consumers of the media benefited the most from the EU ruling. The broadcasters can tap into higher viewership rates due to an increase in media penetration. The losers would be the English Premier League, who now face the Herculean task of legally battling with multiple broadcasters across the EU. If i was running the English Premier League, my strategy be on broadcast rights going forward would be to have non ambiguous broadcasting contracts with all EU & Global Satellite & Online Broadcasters that clearly lay down the rules of geographical broadcast rights and still provide them with access but monetize on that access. Because the lack of access always breeds piracy. Instead i would create a bidding system to use demand to efficiently monotize the Broadcast.
