Pitch-and-Party Events

Pitch-and-Party Events is a large events company with several branches in the Gauteng area. Pitch-and-Party takes care of all events and party planning from the informal team building children parties and picnics to formal dinner and weddings. For the past few months, employee turnover has increased, and staff morale has decreased. Personnel are definitely not in a party mode when they are at work. 

The founder and the owner of Pitch-and-Party, Miss Lisbeth Kgosana, decided to engage the service of an HR consultant to turn things around. Lisbeth did some research and decided to contact Miss James Visser for this task. James accepted the contract and did some research of his own about the organization, Its history and its needs. On arrival at the company, James arranged interviews with all the staff to determine why their morale was so low, and what their career expectations and needs were. After the interview, James did a thorough analysis of what was going on at the events company. 

James realized that some staffs were overworked while others' performance was substandard. He found that the decor manager position had been vacant for a while. All four-decor position has been filled but there was no one to supervise or manage the overall decor tasks. This was the reason why somethings just did not get done. After careful consideration, James moved Miss Rosy into this position. Miss Rosy was 62 years old and had been working for Pitch-and-Party for the past 17 years. Tshidi who is 59 years old, had been working at the company as a bookkeeper for the past 31 years. During the interview she indicated that she felt frustrated and bored with her job. It came to James attention that Korabo one of the cooks had not been performing well either . Korabo had been a waiter at the events for three years and had been promoted to a cook approximately six months ago. He attended two cooking courses, but still struggle to do anything right. Customer kept on commenting on the company's Facebook page about the poor quality of food, which Korabo has prepared. James decided that it would be best to move Korabo back into his previous position of waiter. 

Furthermore, Alda felt under pressure with two small children at home. She mentioned that she sat in traffic every morning for more than an hour to get to the main office in Sandton. Pitch-and-Party happens to have a smaller event branch in Pretoria as well, which focuses mainly on children's party. James just decided to give Alda the option to relocate to Pretoria and became the children's party planner. (There was no one filling this position in Pretoria). 

James spent a week at the company then conducted follow up interview with some of the employees two months later. They all indicated that they felt that they were opportunities for them and that they were more satisfied with how things are being done.
