To properly evaluate the findings during a physical assessment it is necessary to know what is normal. However, what is normal may vary among differing development age groups. For instance, the assessment of the thyroid gland may be quite different between the young, middle aged, and elderly, yet be normal for each age group. It is therefore vital to know not only what is normal across the lifespan, but normal variants as well, and to be able to differentiate those from truly abnormal findings. In your first post, respond to the following: Choose an endocrine disorder (diabetes, thyroid, growth hormone) and describe how the assessment for this disorder will differ in the pediatric, middle age adult and elderly populations. How will you adjust your assessment techniques based upon age appropriate interactions? How will you differentiate between the normal, normal variants, and abnormal findings for the three populations?
