The current state of Illinois, where I reside, has granted its APRN nurses full practice authority. With this authority, APRN nurses can practice without having a prescribing physician sign off on care rendered. The APRN nurse must obtain all required documentation and training before practicing this. For example, an APRN nurse can open up her clinic to treat patients about their licensure, write scripts, and diagnose patients during their visit without a physician needing to preside over them (APRNs Granted "Full Practice Authority" in Illinois, 2022). In Arizona, nurses can only practice entirely without a phwith's signature. The nurse in Arizona would only be allowed to run a clinic to see patients, but a physician has to head the clinic. All decision-making has to go through the physician before it becomes final. The APRN nurse in Arizona has to pay a fee within the application process when applying for licensure to be able to prescribe medications.
