Question

A 66-year-old man is admitted to the hospital after having chest pain whenever he was physically active. He states he does not have any pain after stopping activity. Patient has no history of heart or lung disease. His physical examination was normal except for notable paleness. On transfusion of O-positive blood, his angina disappeared. A stool sample was obtained while he was admitted to the hospital, and his stool was positive for occult blood. A colonoscopy was performed, which indicated right-side colon cancer. About four weeks after his initial presentation to the ED, he had a partial colectomy (removal of part of his colon). He tolerated the surgery well.
