In a double-blind study of the efficacy of a new anticoagulant in preventing thrombosis and reducing mortality after a myocardial infarction, patients admitted to the ICU after an acute MI were randomized to receive either the new drug or placebo. Patients in the treatment group also received anti-arrhythmic drugs and were permitted early ambulation.
