Question: Transcribe sections of the video session provided and analyze.

1) You must be able to document the dialogue between the therapist and the client in the left-hand column and identify the specific interviewing skills demonstrated in the right-hand column to highlight key aspects of the interaction/session. Transcription of the entire dialogue is NOT required from the demonstration video; you are only required to identify and transcribe THREE different examples from the video demonstrating three different interviewing skills. See example/table provided below.

2) Beside each response, the student will:

a) Identify the interviewing skills as outlined in chapters 3, 4, 5 and 6 (e.g. attending behavior, reflection of feeling, open question, explanation, encouraging insight, encouraging actions, educational and directive techniques, etc.) Use interviewing skills from the text only. Be specific when you identify the skill set and provide a definition.

b) Identify the intent of the response: Comment on the goal of the response. For example, if the therapist asked a question about the client's family, what was the purpose of that question? If the therapist changed the tone of their voice, what was the intended purpose? Note: You may have several reasons for choosing a specific response.

c) Identify an alternative response: Identify an alternative response/skill and comment on the new response that may have proven useful in this situation. For example, could the therapist have asked an exception question or the client identify a time they did not have the problem?
