As River Forks Clinic moves forward with the implementation of the selected system, the expectations for data quality and data usage increase. Physicians want to increase Medicare reimbursement levels by participating in data reporting programs, such as the Physician Quality Reporting System (PQRS). You also learn that past experiences with data reporting have not been pleasant, as reports contained a high level of error. In addition, you learn that less than a year ago, the clinic had a mishap with electronic data transfers, resulting in a breach of prescription data that was sent to several pharmacies. With the assumption that the facility has implemented the system you proposed in week 3, your task is to look at the data infrastructure and technology in place, and provide the following:
- Analyze the current data infrastructure at the clinic and provide a snapshot of the data types and their sources. If there are missing pieces of information, identify those, as well as what could be done to obtain that data on a continuous basis.
- Considering the plan to participate in data reporting as well as AHIMA's Data Quality Model, provide at least 3 specific recommendations to improve data quality.
- Discuss the vulnerabilities of the systems, when it comes to security breaches. Again, based on the system selection made in Week 3 and prior analysis of existing systems, analyze the technology that is in place and provide at least 2 suggestions on how the facility can improve security of data at rest and in transition.
