An optically active (i.e. chiral) compound with the formulaC6H12O2 shows a broad, strong bandat 3400 cm-1 and a strong band around1700cm-1 in the IR spectrum. When treated withPCC, or when separately treated with H2CrO4,optically inactive compounds result. When the original compound is treated with Tollen's reagent, the product is stillchiral.
