Scenario
You are working in a busy emergency department when Edith, a 73-year-old woman, is brought in by ambulance after collapsing near a local supermarket. It is unclear how long she had been on the floor before being discovered. Edith presents with the following:
• Small superficial abrasion to forehead
• Widespread bruising to her left arm, torso, and leg
• She is very anxious, apologetic and panicked but remains alert and orientated Edith reports that she had the flu three weeks ago and has struggled with a reduced appetite since, leading to insufficient eating and drinking. She also shares that she has a husband with early onset Alzheimer's disease and that her daughter lives 15 miles away but visits twice a week. Edith admits to often feeling overwhelmed by her medications and is unsure if she is taking them correctly. She recalls her medication list, which she states is:
• 'Baby Aspirin'
• Lisinopril (20mg daily) for essential hypertension
• Warfarin (2mg daily) for previously recurring VTE
• Over-the-counter multi-vitamins
