You have been consulted to see a 4-month old infant, Sayre, in the outpatient clinic. Sayre's parents are at the appointment and report she is a typically developing 4-month old infant born at 40 weeks + 5 days (estimated gestational age). Sayre is exclusively human milk fed and direct feeds on-demand, usually about 10 feedings/24 hours. The nursing parent will be returning to work in 1 month and is concerned about this transition, wondering how much milk they'll need to express for the 8 hours they will be separated. The non-nursing parent wants to support this transition as well. Sayre's parents also want to know when and how they should start introducing solid foods into their baby's diet. They report Sayre is curious about the environment and is rolling over to reach and exploreitems, putting most of them in her mouth. Before the visit, you looked at Sayre's overall growth pattern which included weight and length at birth, 1 month, 2 months, and today - Sayre is growing well and following a consistent growth pattern.
