Uses of Alkenes

(i) Alkenes are used for the manufacture of polythene - a plastic material; 

(ii) Alkenes are used for artificial ripening of fruits;

(iii) Alkenes are used as a general anaesthetic;

(iv) Alkenes are used as a starting material for a large number of compounds such as glycol, ethyl halides, ethyl alcohol, ethylene oxide, etc;

(v) Alkenes are used for making poisonous mustard gas (War gas); 

(vi) Alkenes are used for making ethylene-oxygen flame.
