Penny looks out her window at the orphanage gate and the sea beyond (NARRATION)
ACT ONE
EXT. ROAD-NIGHT
Penny and Nick are running (literally) away from the orphanage. Hard breathing, desperation, trees fleeting by, Penny looks back, black buildings against night sky, etc.
EXT. TOWN - NIGHT
Penny and Nick sneak through the shadowy streets and buildings. First dialogue.
EXT. WARF - NIGHT
Penny and Nick search for the right boat, see the mast and find the Har-de-Lee.
EXT. BOAT- NIGHT
Penny and Nick bed down in tne folded sail.
DREAM
Penny dreams about the orphanage trying to pull them back. Ghost children, twisted vines growing in gate, whatever, etc.
EXT. BOAT - MORNING
Ben wakes Penny with mop. Who are you? Penny explains. Ben offers breakfast.
INT. GALLEY - BOAT - MORNING
Kids eat. Ben tells of his Father, Lion's Paw, reads letters, talks about his Uncle. Penny brings up "running away."
EXT. BOAT-DAY
Ben says kids can stay for a day if they work.
EXT. BOAT - DAY
Work montage.
INT. GALLEY - BOAT - DAY
Kids have lunch. Uncle's voice. Ben tells them to hide in a cupboard.
EXT. BOAT - DAY Uncle shows up.
INT. CUPBOARD - DAY
Penny and Nick huddle in darkness and listen to Uncle give news of sale to Ben. Says he will be back tomorrow with buyer. Uncle leaves.
INT. GALLEY - BOAT - DAY
Ben decides to "run away", tells them to prep boat while he goes into town for money and supplies.
