FORMULATING YOUR STANCE ON AN ISSUE/IPOS ABSTRACT:
Directions: Choose one issue (Listed above) and formulate a position on it - then write a ONE PAGE proposal (ABSTRACT) for your essay using the IPOS (Issue, Purpose, Obstacle, Scope) format. Section abstract in the following manner:

Issue: In two to four sentences, identify the issue, describe its relevance to the topic, and clearly state your position on it.
Purpose: In two to four sentences, write how you plan to persuade your audience that your point of view is valid and important.

Scope: Explain exactly which aspects of the issue you will and will not address in your report. Create a list of three to a dozen items that clearly identifies the points you intend to cover/not cover.
WRITING OBJECTIVES:
Using this essay as a stepping off point, you will expand upon the topic by writing a persuasive argument research paper while taking your own stance on this topic and its role/effect within contemporary American society. Impart to the readers a clear and compelling idea of what they should do with or about the facts you offer. You should persuade your audience that it has something important to learn or something that it ought to do based upon your arguing of the issue.
