Why is the AIDS treatment often done with a drug cocktail?

The treatment of acquired immune deficiency syndrome is often done with one or more anti-retroviral drugs of dissimilar groups, for example, a protease inhibitor plus a reverse transcriptase inhibitor in an attempt to approach in one single time two or more parts of the HIV life cycle. Besides that, the high mutation rate of the virus may create the treatment ineffective and for this reason the use of the drug cocktail permits physicians to choose other dissimilar drug combinations to escape the viral resistance.
