Why IO devices cannot be directly be connected to the system bus?

The IO devices cannot be directly linked to the system bus because

i.  The data transfer rate of IO devices is slower that of CPU.

ii. The IO devices in computer system has dissimilar data formats and work lengths that of CPU.

So it is essential to use a module among system bus and IO device known as IO module or  IO system
