What is Tricuspid Atresia: Surgery for Single Ventricle Physiology

In tricuspid atresia, the right atrium fails to open into right ventricle through a right atrioventricular valve. It is often associated with a ventricular septal defect. Very often there is associated pulmonary valve atresia or stenosis at valvar or infundibular level. In about 15 per cent of cases there is increased pulmonary flow and its associated implications. Tricuspid atresia could also be associated with discordant ventriculo arterial connection (transposition of great arteries).
