Digital switch:

This is a device which handles digital signals generated at or passed via a telephone company’s central office furthermore forwards them across the company's backbone network.

This acquires the digital signal from the office’s channels banks which have been converted through users’ analog signals and switches them along with other incoming signals out to the extensive area network.
