Computed Tomograpy Scan

Developments in cross-sectional imaging techniques such as spiral tomography and reformatted computerized tomograms have become increasingly popular in the preoperative assessment and planning for dental implant procedures. They have taken pre operative view of the implantologist from two to three dimensions. This helps them in better orientation and axis of the implant site. CT has now become an indispensable tool in the planning of implant placement in case of severely resorbed ridges and unfavorable bone morphology. It is also handy when implant placement is planned in the Zygoma.  It is essential to obtain information regarding the volume, quality, and topography of the bone at a potential implant site. It also allows to determine the relationship of the proposed implant to important anatomical structures such as nerves, vessels, teeth, nasal floor, and sinus cavities at the implant site
