What is the aim of PDES
The aim of PDES is to provide an interface which permits the exchange of data of the entire product development cycle and production cycle, see also PDES (1985). It can be viewed as an expansion of IGES whereby organizational and technological data have been added. Functionally PDES will contain IGES Version 4.0. The physical and logical structure of both interfaces will be different. For this reason there will be a conversion program to transfer IGES into the PDES format.
