What is polarisation, Electrical Engineering

Assignment Help:

What is polarisation? Explain.

While a dielectric material is related an electric field the dipoles of the material find oriented in a certain direction under the effect of the electric field. Then material is as polarized and this phenomenon as polarization. When non polar materials the atoms or molecules are get polarized and make dipole moments at atomic level. The particular dipoles get oriented in the direction of field. The dipole moment (p) per unit volume is termed as polarization (P). The dipole moment is proportional to local electric field and the constant of proportionality is termed as polarisability. There are three forms of polarization/polarisability.

  • Electronic or atomic polarization
  • Oriental or dipole polarization
  • Ionic polarization
