Intermediate acting: This type works more slowly than short acting. It works hardest 8-12 hours after injection and still keeps on working to some extent 24 hours later. One form of this type of insulin is known a Neutral Protamine Hagedorn. (NPI-I). Hagedorn is the name of the developer and protamine is a simple protein added to it.
