Assignment Help:

what is Cytokinesis in cell reproduction?

Cytokinesis: Mitosis is usually followed by cytokinesis, the division of the cytoplasm and cell membrane. Cellular organelles are not necessarily distributed evenly between the two cells, but there are generally enough in each cell so that normal metabolism can occur.

During cytokinesis in animal cells, the proteins actin and myosin form a ring that pulls together like a drawstring to pinch the cells apart in a process called cell cleavage. This process closely resembles what happens when a balloon is squeezed in the middle to make two halves. In plants, microtubules and actin filaments move various materials to the area between the two cells. A cell plate, the beginning of a new cell wall, is thus formed.
