What Devices Used for Oxygen Therapy?
Variable performance systems: With these devices, the FiO2 would vary depending on the patient's breathing pattern. In general, rapid, shallow breaths would result in a lower FiO2 than with slow, deep breaths. Nasal cannulae and Hudson masks are variable performance systems. An oxygen flow of 1 - 4 L/minute would result in an FiO2 of 30 per cent through a nasal cannula while 6 - 8 L/minute through a Hudson mask would give and FiO2 of 40 to 50 per cent.
