Use of Monitoring and control in nuclear and chemical plants

In nuclear and chemical plants, there is generally a combination of control and monitoring taking place. Information from sensors is generally displayed on a control panel where operators can see alarm conditions and key values (for example if a system monitors temperatures and 1100C is the normal temperature and 1200C is the alarm temperature, control panel will show normal, present and alarm values in form of read outs - either computer will automatically take action if necessary or the operator would take action (that is over-ride the system if necessary).
