Upset butt welding machines

These are usually small capacity horizontal type machines. The power source required for these is a step down transformer as in the case of spot, seam or projection welding.

Either manual clamping or clamping with springs or air cylinder is employed. Timing is accomplished using a limit switch operated by the movement of the platen or an automatic timer. Upset butt welding machine is similar to flash butt welding machine.

With modifications, upset welding machine can be used for forging and shaping rods, or tubings; also metal gathering and cable severing.
