Place a prepared slide of Trypunosoma under tlic microscope and focus it under low power, You will observe large number of tiny spindle-shaped trypanosomes lying in the plasma alllidst red blood cells.

i) The body is elongated and tapering at both ends. The anterior end is Inore tapering while tlie posterior end is somewhat bluntly roulided.

ii) A single flagellum is seen to come out from the anterior end; the flagellum is attached with the outer surface of tlie undulating membrane, which runs all along the entire lengt of the protozoan ending in tlie posterior end in the flagellum.

iii) The flagellum actitally arises from a basal body or tlie kinetoplast siti~aled near tlie anterior end of the body lying close to another structure the parabasal body.

iv) A rounded nucleus can be seen somewhere in tlie middle of the body.

v) Contractile vacuole is absent (this is true about any other parasitic protozoan).
