Teflon - Halogen Derivatives
1. Teflon is plastic such as substance produced by the polymerisation of tetrafluoroethylene (CF2 = CF2).
2. Tetrafluoroethylene is made while chloroform is treated along with antimony trifluoride and hydrofluoric acid.
3. On polymerisation tetrafluoroethylene makes a plastic-like material that is called teflon.
4. Chemically Teflon is inert molecules. It is not influenced by hard acids and even by boiling aqua-regia. It is invariable at high temperatures. It is, thus, required for electrical insulation, creation of gasket materials and non-sticking frying pans.
