Structural analysis & design, Civil Engineering

Assignment Help:

This is an optional team assignment. This grade will replace your lowest two homework grades. You may work in teams of 3-4 students.

Design the lightest concrete cantilever beams that will safely carry the loads for the new addition shown below. All beams are fabricated of f'c= 4000 psi concrete. Grade 60 reinforcing steel is specified. The use of the new space is a meeting/break room for an office building. In addition to dead and live loads, the beams must support a glass curtainwall system along the perimeter of the new space.

Your instructor will act as a consultant to the student groups. Any guidance sought for your group will deduct points from your overall grade (the number of points will depend on the scope of the question). Each group will have 10 free points. You may not use Dr. Nicholas (instructor of the other section) as a consultant.

The quality of your work will impact your grade. It will be important to state all assumptions and cite all references with your calculations.
