steel work design, Civil Engineering

Assignment Help:
1) A building constructed from steelwork requires the following sections to be designed:
a. A beam carrying a characteristic permanent load of 11kN/m and a characteristic variable load of 10.5kN/m, both as UDLs. The beam span is 7 metres and an allowance for the self-weight has been included in the permanent load.
b. A beam carrying two point loads; each point load comprises a beam-end reaction from two of the beams in part (a). The beam span is 12 metres and the point loads are applied at the third points; i.e. 4m from each end with a 4m gap between them. No allowance has been made for self-weight.
Design both beams, in accordance with euro code 2, for moment capacity, shear capacity and deflection, carrying out the appropriate checks.
