Disorders of speech, language, reading, writing, and mathematical abilities are understood in terms of linguistics and the psychology of language and of what is known about the relationship between the brain and language. Lacking definitive knowledge of how the brain really works, neuropsychologists have constructed an elegant conceptual model of how the brain processes information within and across modalities and domains.
