Maintains primarily an adequate systemic BP, and alters blood distribution in body to meet specific functions. Ex: during exercise blood is shunted toward SKM and away from skin, kidneys, and GI tract. When body temperature is high, skin blood vessels are dilated to increase heat dissipation, and if blood volume is decreased (hemorrhage) blood flow is essentially restricted to all organs except brain and heart.
