Q. in radioactive decay, a nucleus emits an alpha particle and two beta particle successively. show that the final nucleus is an isotope of original nucleus.

Ans: Let the mass and atomic nos. of the initialnucleus be M and A respectively.After the ejection of one alpha particle, M becomes M-4 and A becomes A-2. And, after the ejection of 2 beta particles, A becomes (A-2) + 2 = A. Now, acc. to the definition of isotopes,..................
