Oxidative phosphorylation

Oxidative phosphorylation is a metabolic pathway which uses energy released through the oxidation of nutrients to generate adenosine triphosphate (ATP). While the many forms of life on Earth utilize a range of various nutrients, almost all carry out oxidative phosphorylation to generates ATP, the molecule which supplies energy to metabolism. This pathway is almost certainly so pervasive because it is a highly competent way of storing energy, compared to alternative fermentation processes like as glycolysis.
