obstacle avoidance Arduino robot, Electrical Engineering

we work as a group on Automoted guided vehicles project, with 2 vehicles one is leading and the other is guided and following the first one, i was assigned to write an obstacle avoidance code for both of the vehicles as an extra feature.
components should be used:
Parallax PING Ultrasonic Distance Sensor 28015.
Arduino Mega 2560 ADK
