Question

What is major dissimilarity between standpipe, standpipe piezometer and piezometer?

Answer

Standpipe usually contains plastic pipes with punctured holes at base. Annular gap between perforated tube and casing is filled with stony or sand backfill. Under such an agreement, standpipe is used to gauge water level of a sure region.

A standpipe piezometer is type of piezometer that measures pore water pressure at certain level. It consists of plastic pipes devoid of holes. The tip of standpipe piezometer is perforated and annular space between tip of the piezometer and soil is full with sand as annular space between previous parts of plastic tube and soil is filled with cement or bentonite grout to seal off water from entering region of piezometer tip. This enables pore water pressure in region of piezometer tip to be calculated. In core, standpipe piezometers are installed to study pore water pressure of a particular depth below ground. Though, it suffers from disadvantage that response time is relatively slow in clayey soils.
