Methods yielding mixture of amines - Hofmann's method

Hofmann's method: The mixture of amines (1°, 2° and 3°) is made by the alkylation of ammonia along with alkyl halides.

The primary amine can be ready in a good yield by using a large excess of ammonia. The process is as well known as ammonolysis of alkyl halides. It is also known as a nucleophilic substitution reaction.
