Metabolism of galactose, Biology

Assignment Help:

The hydrolysis of the disaccharide lactose (in milk) give up glucose and galactose. Thus galactose is also a major dietary sugar for humans. Glucose and Galactose are epimers which vary in their configuration at C-4. Thus the entry of galactose into glycolysis requires an epimerization reaction. This occurs by a four-step pathway known as the galactose-glucose interconversion pathway
