Q. Importance of counselling for diabetic patient?

Diabetes is a life-long illness. Life style modification and precautions taken by the patient can prevent complications and improve the quality of life, therefore counselling a diabetic patient and family is important for the following reasons:

  •  Helping to take decision to take treatment.
  •  Providing psychological, social and emotional support.
  •  Providing information about future complications.
  •  Motivating people to take good care of their health.
  •  Assisting them to develop personal skills necessary for life style change.
  •  Ensuring regular treatment.
  •  Ensuring regular follow-up.
  •  Involving family in care and support to the patient.
