Q. Illustration of disk formatting?
An illustration of disk formatting is displayed in Figure below. In this case every track comprises 30 fixed-length sectors of 600 bytes each. Every sector holds 512 bytes of data and control information useful to disk controller. ID field is a unique identifier or address used to place a particular sector. SYNC byte is a special bit pattern which set the limits of the beginning of field. The track number recognizes a track on a surface. Head number identifies a head since this disk has many surfaces. ID and data fields each one comprise an error-detecting code.
