How is segmentation implemented in typical microprocessors?
The first advantage is as memory segmentation has is that only 16 bit registers are needed both to store segment base address with offset address. It makes the internal circuitry easier to build as this removes the requirement for 20 bits register when the linear addressing method is used. And the second advantage is relocatability.
